Does one have to seek planning permission to place a shipping container on land,when it will be used as a temporary storage facility ?

That's likely to be true on residential land, but not necessarily on agricultural land, where storage of equipment loosely connected with agricultural purposes is permitted. Farmers seem to get away with all sorts of sins under this loop-hole.

thanks for your replies I notice a number of these containers are sited on private car parks,in residents back gardens,and was under the impression that when one has been parked for a period without complaint to the council the matter was fait accompli as far as the council were concerned.
