2011 £6.08 £4.98 £3.68 £2.60
2010 £5.93 £4.92 £3.64 £2.50
*This rate is for apprentices under 19 or those in their first year. If you’re 19 or over and past your first year you get the rate that applies to your age.
The age groups were different before 2010. There were no National Minimum Wage rates for apprentices.

Lazygun ---- Because the minimum wage is now regarded as the norm and companies no longer have to compete for good staff.
e.g. In my area their is a company that was long recognised as being a firm that paid the best wages in the area. I worked there for 20 yrs and when I left in 1991 the wage for a semi-skilled operative was in the region of £17,500 per annum for a 39 hour week. They are now paying minimum wage and working 50 hour weeks. (Just one example of many where employees have gradually reduced wages over the years)
