Money Counters

Well guys can anybody reassure me. Went over to pay for my kitchen and called into Poundstretchers spent about £20 there and £30 for dog groomers.

Am just in and am counting the cost of my kitchen, and the money I have in my purse.

Got a cheque cashed in the bank and you know the usual the machines dish out the money.

I can't account for £100.

I never checked the money in the bank but can these counters make a mistake. Thanks

Yes, they can. You should always check the money which is dispensed from a cash machine, it's one reason why I always ask for a receipt slip if I use one. The shops can give wrong change too.

Please don't tell me that you are paying for your kitchen in cash.....

PS - no I don't know which machines you mean - if I want to get cash over the counter from my bank, the teller person counts out the money.

thanks boxy - well, then definitely machine (I am not talking about dispensers) am talking about physical - ie lady banker was wrong - God I make some mistakes. Yes I did pay cash Boxy without too much information I had to pay it that way as I did not have enough in account.

Each bank branch must balance up at the end of each day. If your branch gave you £100 less than your cheque required, this will show up in the day's cash accounts - i.e. the bank will have £100 more than it should have.
Go see them on Monday morning. they will be expecting someone to come in and ask about being £100 short.

If the cashier was wrong then her till will be out at the end of day by £100. Go back to the bank tomorrow and they should be able to see that an error was made on their part.

No the teller did not count out the money - I have seen these machines before but I trusted them implicitly. I have no idea how they work but I assume - they type or tap the amount and the machine within secs dispenses the money.

conne, I still don't understand - our bank tellers count out the money by hand in front of you before they hand it over.

Frugal I was thinking of that myself. There is no way I spent £100.

You mean the teller put the notes in a Banknote counting machine

They are very reliable but still worth contacting the Bank.



Might you have paid too much to the Kitchen people by mistake?

well, that's good then, you didn't pay the kitchen people too much money.

Your other purchases were a lot less than £100 so it doesn't sound if Poundstretcher could have short-changed you?

Usually when I do bits and bobs of shopping I couldn't vouch for things - but today I can - I spent less than £20 in PS and £30 to groomer of which I had £10.

Keep all your bits of paper and receipts evidencing the bank withdrawal and the shop receipts, you can show them to the bank on Monday.

Could you have given too much in pound-stretchers or dropped some notes somewhere maybe? Hope not and hope you find it. Check all pockets one more time.
