Do I have any right to a share of the house?

My partner and I have split up after livingtogether for 5 years. The mortgage and house is in her name. What rights do I have to a share in the property?

In these cases, although mainly in marriages, you will want to prove you have a constructive trust in the property. this is not a simple matter if you were not married to your partner. Normally a court would consider payments the non-mortgage payer made to the property in terms of household expenses, utilities, providing a family car etc. they must be costs that the mortgage payer would have had to pay themselves if the non-mortgage payer wasn't around. However if your ex-partner (who i assume was not married to you) is not co-operative and denies that you both had an understandig that your contributions were intended to give you a trust in the property then you will probably end up with nothing. Speak to a solicitor, but you must also have proof of your contributions.
