The best thing to do is make an appointment with your Bank and talk over the options with them. Explain when you make the appointment as you will probably need someone with the required lending authority. If it means they will get the arrears paid off more quickly it make sense to agree. The only stumbling block could be any fees involved in arranging the new loan and if you can afford them up front.

your current lender will not let you move on to a better deal when you are in arrears. It is also possible that even if you do clear the arrears you will have acquired a less than perfect credit record which will mean that even your current lender will not let you change deals because, cynically, they know that you won't be able to move anywhere else so they won't let you save £200pm when they know they don't have to. Very sorry but bad credit = expensive credit.
