They can be contested, not altered as such.
yes - this should be in law - there is a lawyer who specialises in this
it is called a deed of variation....

( yes as in English wills law )
How can that be, if the Will represents the last wishes of the deceased? - once they're dead, how can they be changed?

Oops, shows how much I know.
If you recollect, Diana (yes St Diana that is ! ) 's will was altered
she seems to have drawn it up not realising that she would die ( joke)
and so the deed which was agreed by all concerned (beneficiaries), gave up their interests in favour of the two kids and got lovely silver mugs.
This is often done. The usual reason is that the existing will is not tax efficient, so the beneficiaries agree to have it rewritten to leave more money in the estate and less to the taxman.
I think you have to get to the will before the other relatives ;-)
