cancelling a standing order

i want to write a letter to my bank to cancel a standing order, how should i word it?

Usual letter format:

Dear Sir,

With immediate effect please cancel my standing order payable to ACME ltd for �x, paid on or around the nth of each month.

Yours Faithfully

Chazza

Would also include your account number and sort code.

It may be easier / quicker / less hassle to either phone them, pop into a branch or do it via internet banking.

Well I'd assumed that in my "usual letter format", yes sort code account would be helpful.

Have you considered internet banking - makes it really simple.

I can imagine that if the bank receive this letter and forget to act on it then they'd immediately say that it was lost in the post and that it had never reached them. Lots of customers complain about letters that they send that contain requests that aren't carried out.
Use phone or t'internet banking and it'll be cancelled immediately. If you're spectacularly stingy, the phone call will also cost less than the stamp.
