  Thanks for all the replies.    Would Mrs. Pegasus care to name her server and can anybody confirm that if I were to switch from 512 to 2M - I would definately receive a faster service.

I am with Tiscali BUT where I live I only have the choice of 2 because nice BT wouldnt allow everyone to 'rent' the lines so I had the choice of Tiscali or BT.  I believe Tesco and Wanado could be cheaper but I unfortunately have very little choice.

my dads on 2mb broadband BT and i am on 300k broadband with ntl and i dont know about downloading things as i never tried that but for browsing i noticed that my 300k was much faster than his 2mb, reason? his computer was 18 months older than mine and therfore wasnt able to take full advantage of the speed gain.

Moral to this, make sure your computer is powerful enough to make use of the extra speed for browsing, otherwise u arent going to notice diddly squat unless u go around downloading loads of music and videos etc from the net!
