Public Liability Insurance For A Community Group
3 Answers
Can any one give me any advice please. We are a local community group and each year we organise a short parade only 500metres we are all old! we invite other groups to join us and it culminates in a local hotel where a good time is had by all. I have now been wondering if we should have public liability insurance for this. Are we liable as the organisers if someone is hurt or any damage occurs. The members carry standards and last year was particularly windy and i wondered who would be liable if say one flew out of someones hand and damaged a car or worse injured someone. Would we be liable or the group whose standard caused the damage? We also do fund raising at someone-elses event and use a gazebo , again who would be liable for any injury us or the event organiser? Finally if we should have it does anyone know of any insurers who do reasonable policies as we do not have any income other than the few pounds raised at the annual event (approx £200)

although I doubt that you'll be able to obtain an all embracing policy within your limited budget.

In this day and age it probably would be sensible to have some insurance. Espeially if there is even the smallest chance of a person or a child getting hurt.
Is your group afffiliated with any larger group or body? If so go through them. If not get a quote from insurers whi are sympathetic and who offer policies for small charities and community groups.
Have a scout about, but here are a couple by way of example. It will not cost much.

Thank you. We are part of a larger body but the policy they recommend does not cover this. It only covers employer liability and we do not employ anyone. We have been going for over 40 years but in this day and age of suing even for the smallest thing I think we may need some cover. I was hoping someone would have similar experience and be able to guide us.
