Making Of A Website To Find Accomadation In London
20 Answers
there are loads of websites allready up and running such as www.roommate.com
www.spareroom.com etc. but few of these are focusing on contractors looking for digs. how do these websites work and generate money, i had a website made before for a few hundred pounds and it was only a few pounds per year to host it. after finding it hard as a contractor to secure decent " digs " in london i have hit on an idea focused entirely towards working contractors seeking short and long term lets . where could i get more sound info and advice on such a venture , which organisations could help me get advice on start up. probably i will get a few replies to say dont even think of it because there are too many websites allready but i dont do " i cant " .
thanks

The business model is to set up the website with a search and booking facility and then seek out all the accomodation providers and get them to use it. You could either charge them a registration fee and a cut of all bookings they get through it, or build into the charge to the customer a bit more per night/week for the room and make your money that way. Sell some advertising on the site too and Bob's your Uncle!
Have a google for advice on small business start up in your area. There are ways and means.

You need access to a database of accommodation providers, and an e-commerce interface to run it.
Or, you could ask around your friends and contacts who might provide accommodation, set up a facebook account, and agree with your mates that you'll promote them for a certain %
The mates will soon figure how to cut you out of the loop but it might bring in a bob or two.

hc4 thanks but i did a search and that website brought up mostly guesthouses and hotels, cheapest i could get was £768 a month from 26th nov. very expensive i think, usually if i work in london i can pocket £900 to £1100 a week and i never pay more than say £150 a week for accomadation, it is very hard to find decent rooms in london.
im used to working with crowds of guys seeking work in london etc and they all use the same phrase " where can i find digs " its all in the word " do a google search of digs in london and hardly anything worth a look will show up.

All legit enterprise is it. Got the trading licence. Food handling certificates, hot running water, soap, towels and a thousand other requirements the local authority require to prepare and sell food.? Good luck with that one. Let us know how your mate is getting on in 2 months time with this new business venture won't you?
