Putting it in a joint account will make no difference, at least that's how I understand it.

yup. They don't actually claw the money back, they treat it as though the person being assessed still has it.

The question was just academic. The nieces mentioned this to my sister yesterday. I don't know what she said to them but when she got home she said to me they were only interested in her money.
I don't think she's far wrong.

Get you and your sister off on a luxury holiday and spend as much as possible. Get some home improvements done to make life as easy as possible. Then get her to tell the nieces she has changed her will and left it all to charity.

but why give it to the govt ( with all those MPs enhanced pensions to pay ) when you could give it your relations ?
