Dissolved Companies Puzzle

Can anyone explain why so many companies were registered at this address in a very short space of time and are now dissolved, or about to be. Is it some sort of scam?

Business owners simply pay a registration company (or an accountancy firm, etc) to use their address, with the actual firm located at that address simply agreeing to forward any mail received to the relevant company. When, in the past, I've been delivering Yellow Pages and Phone Books, I've been to some addresses that have had many hundreds of small name plates outside stating "Registered office of XYZ Ltd, etc", despite the fact the there was simply one small office at that address. (In one case I estimated that there were over 1000 companies all registered to a single address).
Since the companies which use such services are often small, one-man businesses (or even just company names registered in the hope that a business might get off the ground eventually), it's unsurprising that many of them quickly close down.

Thanks, I hope you can advise a bit more on this.
I found a company there registered to a relative who lives about 200 miles from Lincoln. His full name, home address and trade matches but his surname is incorrect, there is one letter missing.
I am concerned his details have been harvested for some sort of scam.
