My mother is ready for a residential home and has about 70K in savings so will have to pay fees out of that but what I really want to know is what happens when the savings are used up, who funds the fees then?

Her savings are used until she reaches £23500 then you can apply to Social Services for assistance. Make sure you claim attendance allowance at the higher rate. I assume there is no property to sell as you do not mention one.

Thanks Ubasses, I'll read that tomorrow, my heads spinning from looking at possible homes.
Good luck, Johnk.

Visit as many as possible and choose the one that doesn't smell of urine.
It is not a nice job, make sure you read the reports on the Care Commission website, and use your gut instinct. Look at the residents and see how they interact with the carers, if you can speak to them and ask them if they are happy there. (take care if they are dementia patients as their views will change by the hour!)
My dad opened up an account for me when i was a little girl under his name.Although my name does show on the account, the bank has told me that he needs to sign control over to me if i want to be able to access the funds. As i don't really want to talk to him, my question is will i get into trouble if i use the account number and sort code to pay a bill? There is only £50 in there and it's registered to my mums address so i don't think he'll ever find out, it just seems a shame to let it go to waste
arrr, sorry I meant to post that as a question
