Attaching Bad Name to an address
3 Answers
I found out that a previous tenant at my address has a number of unpaid parking fines and judgements against him. I have spoken to the Bailiffs and told them off the situation to prevent a visit.
If someone at an address has a bad reputation does this affect subsequent people living at that address? ( ie when applying for loans etc )

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.It used to be the case that credit reference agencies would often assume an 'association' between two people who gave the same address. e.g. if Bill Smith at 21 Railway Cuttings had got a bad credit score, a credit application from Joanne Brown at 21 Railway Cuttings would be rejected on the basis that Bill and Joanne might be living together as husband and wife. This could happen despite the truth being that Bill Smith had been evicted and Joanne Brown had moved into the vacant property.
After many protests from consumer organisations, and eventual government intervention, credit reference agencies are no longer allowed to base credit ratings solely upon address information unless they can show valid reasons for assuming an 'association' between the person who has a poor credit score and the person applying for credit. (e.g. it's not unreasonable that a husband should be refused credit if the wife he lives with at the same address has several county court judgements against her).
