I don't think there are any consequences for Santander- the only link is they are Spanish. You have protection anyway even if anything went wrong.
IMO safe as they ever were. Banks can go but I doubt an internal dispute in Spain should much affect a multinational finance company's stability.
Santander in the UK is a British Bank, although owned by the Spanish Company, it is registered in the UK and is run autonomously, and a member of the FSCA.
