Bank Does Not Want To Give Me A Receipt For Cash Paid In
28 Answers
I was unexpectedly paid for work today, so I took the cash straight to my bank, Santandar. I did not have my account details, but I had my driving licence with my photo and proof of my address.
They quickly found my account, and said it was no problem paying in the cash, but they would be unable to give me a receipt.
Even though Santandar are a reputable bank, I did not like the idea of handing over a few hundred quid without getting any form of proof, so I declined.
I assume it is some form of security measure.
Would you hand money to someone without getting any proof they had received it from you ?

Used to be with Santander..closed account and banked elsewhere....long story :-)

My bank didn't give me one when i paid £200 cash in with my card (I don't like paying in cash at those machines- perhaps I should use them next time). They seemed surprised and assured me it had gone on my card and was showing in my account and they didn't do receipts for card payments in. I was a bit flustered as there was queue behind me and moved away and then it seemed too late to go back and insist on one. Anyway, I checked my account when i got home and the money was in.
I can understand that a customer may be given an option to have a receipt for a cheque being paid in at a bank but a receipt for cash should be a mandatory feature of the system.
The argument they may put forward that a receipt would show your account number and be a possible breach of Data Protection does not stack up since you were able to provide id which was accepted.
I should complain in the strongest terms if I were you.

Didn’t you trust that they would’ve banked the money and was worried that the teller was going to pocket it?
I throw all shopping, atm receipts away after I get home and am satisfied with my goodsas all they do is clutter up my handbags.
Was there a specific reason you needed the receipt? Do you keep them?

It's always reassuring to get a receipt for anything you either bank, buy etc .....the reason why Santander didn't want to assist Gromit today is the matter in question here.....what is done with the receipt afterwards is quite immaterial.
Would you bank £500, maybe £1000 and not want to get proof you paid it in, Jahulaye?
