Equitable Life

A lady in my office (and her husband!) both had private/personal pensions with Equitable Life. How can they discover what's happened to their pensions and whether or not they are worth anything. If they are, can they be transferred to another provider? They paid in for ten and fifteen years respectively. No information has been received from Equitable Life.
