Can you be a bit more specific? Do you mean you have opened one a while back and want to know if it is still open?

No-one else wouldbe able to open an account in your name unless they opened it while you were a child and therefore unable to open one yourself.

Unless you think someone has stolen your identity and used forged ID to open an account, in which case I would contact the police.

I believe i opened one many years ago and forgot about it....until now. I want to know how to find out whether or not i did open one.

As long as you know which bank it might have been, just walk into any branch with proof of identity (preferably a photo-type driving licence or a passport + a recent utility bill) and explain your problem. All accounts, including old ones, will be on their database. (Look for an 'enquiries' or 'customer service' desk. It will save queuing at the tills and the person staffing the desk may have quicker access to the database).

If the account has not been used for a number of years, it will be classed as dormant, will have been trf to head office of whichever bBank and the person on the enquiries desk probably won;t find it.

There is a leaflet produced by the British Bankers Association that also has a form for you to complete. They will then try to trace any dormant bank account in your name. See HERE for more details, scroll down to 'Dorman Accounts'. you can access the form in PDF format from the link.
