Out of curiosity, a fair few have gone, but have I missed any? I recall:

Woolworth, BHS, Comet, Maplins, Dixons, Virgin Records, MFI, BlockBuster, Toys r Us, DOITALL, Books etc, Northern Rock, Carillion, Habitat, The Cornish Pasty Shop, Poundworld. Plus numerous small biz like book shops and electric parts, That is about it. Anybody remember any others? Thanks.

Habitat still exist, I think they were bought by Sainsburys and there still some Habitat units inside Sainsbury stores.

Do we count banks / building societies?

Abbey National
Alliance and Leicester
Bradford and Bingley

probably others
Hepworth the Tailors
Horne Brothers - Gentleman's Outfitters
Army & Navy Stores
Radio Rentals (does anyone rent a TV anymore?)
MacFisheries
Bejam
Etam/Tammy Girl
Plenty Woolworth stores in Australia, and Blockbusters.
Grainger Games
Jackson the Tailor
>>> Plenty Woolworth stores in Australia, and Blockbusters

That indirectly reminds me of a name that has long since disappeared from UK High Streets but which I've seen in Ostend, Paris, Bratislava and in countless other European towns and cities: C & A.
Chris - we have a staples store.
C&A
Our Price
Tower Records
Julian Graves
All the bespoke tailors seem to have disappeared from the High Street. Apart from Hepworth's and Jackson's I remember Burton's, John Collier, March, Weaver to Wearer. I presume that nobody apart from the great and the good buys a bespoke suit anymore.

That'll come as a surprise to the people at Staples then. They're certain that you haven't!

What you've probably got is a store operated by SUK Retail Limited (who bought up the leases on most of the stores vacated by Staples), who trade as Office Outlet:

Complete the list ? Not sure I can count that high. Companies come & companies go all the time.

Thanks everybody! A horrifying trip down memory lane here but C&A yes what a shocker! Habitat is of course in Homebase but that was in danger a few weeks back (sold for £1) and I know what about London men fashion chain TAKE 6? One two three vanished. I will stop or I will get lost in it all.
C & A was my choice for cheap but quality clothing. I still regularly wear 2 polo shirts I bought from them 22 years ago. They still thrive on the continent.
Do you remember “Peter Pell” Tailors on Wallsend High Street Jack?
Thank you for Best Answer, dance to trance.
I'm sure there was a chain of dry-cleaners who went defunct over 30 years ago.
Ratners Jewellers.
I confess I cannot recall Peter Pell, even though I was brought up in Wallsend since 1949. There was a dry-cleaners called Martin's, who offered a 59 minute service.
