Friend of mine has been left a small inheritance in a will that has been published. There are some shares and property that have to be dealt with. What would be a reasonable time lapse to either ask or the solicitor/executor contact and inform the friend, of the fact that they are mentioned in the will and the sum involved. Is there a possibility that the friend will not get the sum mentioned even if there an estate that greatly exceeds the total gifts.

Thanks for your help
Much appreciated
The executors cannot be compelled to distribute within 12 months of the death. But in reality if there are no adverse claims he ir she could receive their inheritance much sooner.

As to the chances of not receiving it that really depends on whether there are any adverse claims.
