Can I Withdraw A Card Transaction Within 24 Hours ?

i went and made a rash decision yesterday and bought the wife a new sofa, she said her old one was ok but i went ahead and bought it anyway as it was on offer and a real great deal.

got back to hers last night but the old sofa really is in good decent nick ........i paid for it on my visa debit card .

i will call the store this morning to see if i can cancel it .

what do you think ?

I disagree with woofgang. I think you'll be VERY lucky, unfortunately. A debit card transaction is a one off payment :-(

Of course you can cancel it. They probably haven't started making it. Tell them an articulated lorry ploughed into your sitting room ;)

Did you measures doorways etc. - that way you could say that you've subsequntly measured and it won't fit into the house......

You will not be able to cancel the payment but you MAY be able to cancel the sale and obtain a refund. I say MAY.

Once the payment shows up on your bank account as a debit you can dispute the amount by ringing the number on the back of the card. This is normally just done if you have got faulty goods or non delivery of goods though. Ask the store ( very nicely) if you can cancel and have a refund. Hopefully they will agree, but it they get upperty then mention about ringing your card provider to dispute the payment, it may work. Good Luck.

As others have said, debit cards are basically the same as paying cash. All you can do is make up a story, or tell them the truth, truth is the route I would use. At best you may get offered a credit note, or if you are lucky get get a refund.

We recently bought a new Sofa from SCS and they said we could cancel within the next 7 days, we paid the deposit by debit card. Balance to be paid a week before delivery
