Does anyone know how an American national who is coming over here to work can open a bank account for their salary etc to be paid into? Do any American banks have offices over here?

When we lived in Canada we opened an account in a Canadian bank. I would think if he's getting paid over here any bank would open an account for him.
Hi there. Yes, as Kathyan said, the person can open a current account in any brittish bank. All they will need is a passport, a proof of address in the UK, and a letter from their employer stating they are employed here. They will probably need their work visa as well. Lots of non-UK nationals I know have opened bank accounts in the UK without any problem this way, as I have done myself.
If they still have financial obligations at home (credit cards, loans, etc) that require a direct debit they will have to set up an american account as you can not take out payments in dollars from a sterling account. try citibank.
sure, America has bank(s) over here, one i am very sure of is the city bank. thats in central london going towards marble arch or oxford circus. its for sure.
