should i use an agent ie transfwise ?
if not, should i let my EU bank do the conversion from euro to pounds ?
or send to my UK nabk in euro and let the uk bank do conversion

why do transferwise etc allways say they are cheaper ?

I have used Transferwise....better rate of exchange and much cheaper than bank as far as charges are concerned.

Depends on how much you are transferring. My ex wife's parents needed to get some money into Spain for villa purchase. He took it in a money belt.

Speak to all your chosen options within minutes and ask all of them how much your € sum would amount to in the destination account of your choice if the money went through them NOW. Compare the different outcomes, including any drawbacks (for example delays leading to uncertainty). Make your choice - just accept that some change in rates may occur in the interim between you getting a quote and actually going ahead but it should not change the relative merits from before.

There is a limit on how much cash can legally be carried across borders (approx £/€10,000) - anything over that is likely to be confiscated, not to mention any punishment.
