I have a sort code and account number of a payment made to me.


how can i find out who it is?

Phone your Bank and ask them who it has come from.

I did they have givem the acc No and sort code and that it was a bacs payment and thats it

(use the demo) will tell you which bank and where it is. Might give you a clue


It sounds a bit odd - statements usually contain at least an abbreviation of the payee's name

If it's from a personal account then you can't find out - the Data Protection Act would prevent this.
DO NOT post the details here if this is the case.

At my bank, there's a department who can check some info on incoming payments that doesn't show on my statement. Whether the payment was sent quoting my name (if it is, it's obviously intended for me) and possibly even the company name it came from.
