My total monthly income is as above. After rent and all direct debits are paid for, I have a Nett amount of £268.05.

This will be for petrol, food etc. Bearing this in mind, do you think I should pay £41/month for a funeral plan over 10 years? Thanks.

I have 30 days to change my mind and get a full refund of the £500 I have paid so far.

The social payments that allow the government to bury you comes with caveats! One of those being that no one can attend your service
Sorry if I'm missing something here, but why don't you get some life insurance viz: level term assurance.

I took mine out a while ago and it covers me for 25 years for £40k and costs less than £7 per month.

I'm sure you could get some cheap life insurance that would cover you for say £10k, for far less than you're currently paying. Granted you'd only be covered for the term of the policy, so it'd depend on what you want??

That’s interesting gizmonster. I’ll look at that.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I’ll cancel it, tomorrow.
chrissa, your kids sound sensible people :)
If you can avoid going into care and getting the authorities to nick your worldly goods, tell the beneficiaries of the will to sell the house or something. Or they can raise a loan on the strength of it. Must be cheaper than paying for the insurance company's profit as well.
I agree with Woof, your children are right - they don't want to see you scrimp to pay your way out.

Really, RR?

What about the campaigns they've put out for mourners to attend a funeral as there was no family. I assume the social paid for their funeral.
I am going with these, not yet though.

I have no house now. I did have but, things happen.
£41 a month for 10 years is quite a commitment for something you’re not going to get to enjoy. Put a little by when you can and add it to the £500. I’m sure your kids wouldn’t want you scrimping unless you actually want a big funeral.

Ha ha. No I don’t sherr.
Chrissa - pardon me for asking and don't answer if you don't want to but are you claiming everything that you can? Are you entitled to any help with your rent etc?
Yes ummmm when we were sorting out dads funeral and getting costing we asked the funeral director and told us that.
i wouldn't pay that much at all. shop around for a better deal. try Sunlife, they seem reasonable or perhaps as some have suggested a no frills cremation.
You can say in your will what kind of funeral you want- and I assume that if your estate/your children would be paying for it and you want to keep down their costs, it would not be too grand. If your children decide they want to spend more on it after you've gone that's up to them to find the money but at least they will have whatever you put aside in a savings account or is elsewhere in your estate or you have given them from time to time to cushion the cost.

All done. I’ve cancelled the policy. I’ll put the £500 into a Savings Account.

Thank you for everyone’s thoughts.
Now chrissa, go and treat yourself and those wee girls .
