My husband works as a self employed electrician. I do all his invoices. Twice in the past 3 days we have received a remittance advice from an unknown email and unknown people. In both instances the attached remittance was some sort of condensed zip file which cannot be opened automatically. I am wary of opening it in case its a scam. I have asked both emailers to identify what company they are from and what number invoice they are paying. Neither have replied. We do alot of work for landlords and estate agents, but only have two or three small outstanding payments. Am I right to be cauious, do you think its a scam? No money has been paid into our account.

I wouldn't have tried to open it at all.

Sounds dodgy, and as you say no money has come into the account then probably safest to assume non-legit and ignore.
Yes, you're right to be cautious, and yes, it sounds like a scam inviting you to open a malicious zip file using the enticement of a prospective "remittance"
Dont pay it, if they are legitimate they will contact you by other means.
You wouldn't 'pay' a remittance advice CaC. :0)

As Etch says, the prospect of incoming cash is probably an enticement to open a dodgy file.
