when im in a shop my card is in my hadnbag. I have NEVER had my handbag stolen, or my purse, and i wonder if those who are concerned ever have? if so i can understand it slightly more, or situations like travelling, but just general shopping? It seems it's a lot of fuss about not much

I don't think one has to be prone to losing items but a momentary distraction at the checkout can make folk forget to take their card out of the machine. I realised that when I snatched a card an old(er) lady had left behind and hoofed it to catch her up before she left the Co-op. She looked so surprised, bless her.
I think it was five or six times till today, jack. I found this out as I was doing supermarket shopping for my neighbour during Covid and using her contactless card. Then on one trip it wouldn't go through and I was asked to put in the PIN, which of course I didn't know. Had to ring her from the Tesco helpdesk!
I had my wallet taken from my 'manbag' on the Paris metro by a gang of teenage girls who mobbed and distracted me in the rush hour. They managed to unzip and rezip my bag!
I reported it by phoning Credit Agricole from the Eurostar train within 30 mins. They stopped my card and refunded me the 50 euros that had been taken via contactless. The 60 euros cash and all my other cards were lost, but replaced promptly in the UK (driving licence, Health card, library card, loyalty cards etc.)
They also issued my new card with contactless disabled (at my request).
These things can happen!
