Many thanks

You can also pay in cash at a PO with your card and it's creditted immediately, and there's a cheque deposit service (you hand the cheques in in an envelope over the counter and they send it special delivery to the porocessing centre overnight)
I'd say both give good current account service. (I use both and have never had any problems that haven't been put right quickly) The Nationwide's special edge is in overseas transactions being commission free.
If you go abroad much, then Nationwide's FlexAccount (their standard current account) is excellent because they do not charge you for withdrawing cash abroad, anywhere. They also give a good exchange rate, so you don't get fleeced that way either. I have a FlexAccount just to use when I go on holiday (I reckon it saved me at least 250 when I was travelling for 6 months in 2004).
I believe it is the only account which does not charge for foreign ATM transactions.
