Rent Free Or Discounted Rent -Tax?

If friend or family let you live rent -free or at discounted rate , is this considered a gift for tax puposes ? (I am aware £3000 is the gift limit per year)

I don't know but with these IHT issues often people misunderstand it  and I'm not sure how anybody is ever able to track what gifts or gifts in kind have been given

See the bit about regular gifts out if income. your example might count as that and therefore be exempt from iht

there is no gift tax in the uk.

The OP doesn't mention IHT but must be referring to that as there is a £3000 pa allowance for IHT purposes. 

Many assume wrongly that any iht liability falls on the recipient.
