Judgement on property

my brother in law used my husbands American Express Card but was in my husbands name so he is held responsible for the debt which we could not pay and the bro in law died in 2002 the judgement was put on property 2001 of august. will this forever be on our property or will it go off in 7 yrs...please HELP
