I'm leaving the contry to travel for six months, and then on to work for a further year in New Zeland. Am I able to claim all the tax back that I have paid in this financial year by using a P85 forn?
Many thanks in advance.

Yes, but only after the end of that Tax Year. As far as I know.

Sorry, no.

You may be able to claim some of it back, though to be honest it's so close to the end of the tax year now as to make any refund trivial or non-existent..

If you stop work at the end of the tax year you won't be able to claim anything back as you will have paid the right amount.

If you stop work early in the new tax year you will be able to claim back some or all of the tax paid after 5 April depending on how much you have earned by the time you leave. You'll have a full year's tax allowance of 5035 so if you've been paid less than that you wull be due a full refund

Oh, I see what he means now. I thought he meant the excess tax paid when he leaves a job before the end of the tax year. You're right, of course.
