Has anyone had a letter from the "Unclaimed Prize Register".There is a phone number to call to get a allocation code at 1.50 per min and the call lasts for six mins or there is an address in Ross on Wye if you don't want to phone. I wondered if anyone had actually got a prize or is this yet another scam. The prizes on offer range from a 20,000 cheque, 32"tv,digital camera, new kitchen(or 5,000) or 250 in cash. The letter comes from the Award controller and (no supprise) is unsigned.
Never ever fall for these scams. Respond once and your details are passed on to many many more and you will be inundated with junk mail, cold calls and lord alone knows what else.
Shred it up and post it back to them - without a stamp.
I had the same letter before I shredded it I read the small print, 1 of each of the prizes listed except the digital cameras where there were 1000+, to 'win' one of these you had to send 6.50 administration fee! this is after the expensive telephone call. I have no doubt the camera will be the cheapest rubbish they can find.
Not suprised by the responses, I'll recycle it with all the other junk that comes in the post.Makes you wonder how many tons of paper is wasted each year through junk mail.
the prize you would have won is more than likely a digital camera. When you call and claim, you send your claim off with a first class stamp. The camera voucher turns up where you have to pay a further 9.99 for postage before getting the camera.
With the cost of postage and telephone call you've basically bought the cheap little camera outright.
these 'scams' were highlighted recently when that poor elderly lady got into tens of thousands of pounds worth of debt through them. like Ethel said, her name got circulated around to other crooked offers and she just felt pressured into responding. sadly she died, but was worried sick by them all.
In fact, I received a letter from this address today. I refuse to phone for my claim so I'm doing it by post. But what a cheek to ask you to send a SAE. 2 stamps just to send one letter? If they can afford to give out such cash than surely they can afford the postage. This is makes me suspect this is a scam. But I'll post it off today and see what happens. If they ask me to pay to get my prize than I'll tell them to get lost. I suggest that anyone else who gets this response does the same.

I have received a letter and being curious but not daft, wrote to them (instead of phoning) asking for a claim number and award - I have apparantly been awarded a holiday to the Venetian Riviera!! I am going to send the claim form in and see just what kind of holiday it is - I'll keep you posted.
To check a suspect phone number log onto ICSTIS. Did this and the number can be traced-if you have the time. I have come across totally unknown numbers which are real scams. By the way, dont think you can contact your phone company and tell them not to pay! The systems set up so that they already have before you pay them! You can check the company registration via company house-but who wants the bother? May be genuine but steer well clear-theyre in it to make a living not give things away!
Is there anyone out there who lives in Ross On Wye and coould take a butchers They are registered at 20 STATION STREET, which of course may be a private address
I also had one of these today and though not usually taken in, it looked promising. Thanks all for the info. Incidentally. my letter dated 25/07 now only shows PO Box 107, Ross-On-Wye. Needless to say, it's going to be shredded.
My wife received one today. Totally agree that it is a scam and to shred it but it does beg to ask, She didn't fill in any entry forms that they say they have confirmed as filled in correctly so surely this is a deliberate lie to get vulnerable people to ring/write. It must be against the law?
I got one of these letters this morning, I will now be shredding it!! tanx to here. Don`t remember filling in anything, Where do these people get our details? it really shouldn`t be allowed.
