Anybody ever done a runner from a restaurant without paying? Or used an ingenious excuse to avoid payment?

But if the food was really bad I would either send it back uneaten or complain at the time and ask for the bill to be adjusted accordingly. People who run restaurants have to make a living too, often with very narrow margins, and "doing a runner" is just another form of theft.
Only once and by mistake many years ago. It was a pub/hotel where you paid at the desk on the way out. I held the baby whilst my wife went to the loo and then she did the same for me. A few miles up the road I said to my wife "How much was the bill?'
Her reply was "Oh, I thought you paid it." We didn't turn back but I do feel guily about it whenever I pass the place, about once a year.
