I woke up this morning in a good mood but when i got a letter from my bank my mood changed.I have a 100 overdraft limit every month in my account. The letter stated that i was 3 overdrawn & because of this i was being charged 30.I phoned up the bank to explain to them that i know i was overdrawn by 3 but how can they justify in charging me 30?.I was told that this was the process.I also explained to them that i haven't been overdrawn in some time & this was a 1 off but she still wasn't budging.I wouldn't have a problem if the charge was 5 or 10 but 30 is pretty steep.I'm pretty p*ssed off with the whole thing.

natwest or HSBC by any chance?
Annoying as it is the bank would have notified you of its terms and conditions, including charges, when you opened the account.

You will also have received notice of any changes.

If you don't like their terms - change banks.
Sorry - must have posted my answer at exacty the same time!

About 2 months ago, my bank ( RBS ), charged me 90 ( !!! ) for going over my overdraft limit by 10 for 48 hours. I think this is absolutely outrageous and totally disproportionate to any tort this may have caused them. I'm not the only one :

I haven't done anything about mine yet, but it's worth a try ! Good luck.

He he ! See, told you I wasn't the only one !
It is expensive and it's part of the "contract" that you have with your bank. You've agreed to this in advance. Unless you're going to take the bank to court or go via their complaints dept then I think you're stuck with it.

If only you'd spent 3 less, eh? :-o
I clamed 586 back from natwest in unlawful bank charges without it even going to court. She my link below.
My bank sent me an amended tariff of charges/terms and conditions which reworded something to do with charges to strongly imply that any charges are to cover the costs, in their entirety, of all dodgy customers incurring charges. This seemingly included the running costs of their "debt management" dept.

It went straight in the bin but I remember noticing the timing with that and the court case(s).

btw : that link of Will88's is a belter! I'll never pay another bank charge! ;-)
I don't see a link from Will88 or is it my eyesight at fault?
