What are the steps taken by your mortgage company before your house gets reposessed ? I am worried about a friend of mine, she has been made redundant and has not been able to find a permanent job in almost a year, I have been trying to help her as best I can with advice etc, but even though she has told her mortgage company of her predicament, and she has put in a claim to her insurance, this still takes 2 months for it to go through before her mortgage is paid, she also has to have proof that she is claiming job seekers allowance, but how can she do this if she is doing only temporary work which pays peanuts ? By the way she has also applied for a mortgage break for just 2 months to buy herself some time to catch up with various payments to credit cards and bills etc

I wonder if your friend has considered getting a lodger to help with the bills. I know sharing her home would probaby not be what she would prefer to do but it seems that the moment she needs to be considering all possible options to keep her head above water financially until she can find a permanent job. . If she lives near a university or college there may be a strong demand from students. Alternatively language schools are often looking for short-term accommodation for students visiting the UK for summer language skills courses.
Whilst your friend is working they cannot claim Job Seekers Allowance even though the wage thet are getting is poor, and I don't think the insurance company will pay either.
Before things get too serious go to the Citizens Advice in your area and ask to see the person who helps with debts, they may be able to sort something out.
