I have had a soliciters letter from my brothers wife from whom he is seperated accusing me of spreading malicious rumours about her (which is completely untrue) and if I dont refrain further action will be taken.

What course of action can anyone recommend

I'd get a soliciter to right a letter back saying that she should not be accusing you of doing something without evidence. Ask to see the evidence or provide witnesses who are willing to testify and if she cannot provide either tell her to drop the matter or you may be forced to take action yourself (you have written evidence in the form of the original letter that she is making false allogations).

Agree with the above, but why waste good money on a solicitor? Why not write back saying Dear Sir, Thank you for your letter of xyz. I am unclear what allegations you refer to. Please provide appropriate details and supporting evidence. Without such evidence I am unable to know what behaviour your client wishes me to modify. YS. Since every solicitor's letter she sends out costs money, it will probably stop there.

Completely agree with buildersmate answer, except i would string it out a bit. Write to the solicitor and say something like: I have noted the contents of what you say and will reply in further detail later. blah blah blah.

The the solicitor will have to write to his client enclosing your copy( extra cost for her) Then respond again in about 10days. keep the letters going untill you have run her up a good size legal bill.

On the other hand( two sides to every story!!!!!!!!)

Have anice day
