i want to attempt a transfer to my hsbc acct with sort code 07 44 56 from an hsbc acct with sort code 40

07 44 56 is not an HSBC sort code. It's a Nationwide Building Society sort code.

If it has a valid account number associated with it it will work - regardless of whose account that is. If it doesn't have a valid account number, then it won't work. It may take you some time to find out it hasn't worked.

Why don't you just go into the branch and get them to ransfer the accounts? That's what they are there for! Perhaps you are not all you seem!!
