Where would you advise a self employed, single person to look for a best value house?
Working from home so transport links are not vital.
Family in mid-Cheshire (which is quite expensive), so somewhere in North West, W Midlands, possibly.
Any good websites?

South Wales and the Valleys is dirt cheap. You can pick up a house for cash. But you'd really have to look to see if you'd like to live there first.
North Manchester. Blackley/Harpurhey and they are right near the Motorway. Get a terrace for 30,000. Thing with buying cheap though is the houses are cheap coz the areas might not be the best places on earth to live. Although I live in Blackley and its not too bad.

Thanks.
She could afford a bit more than that.
Are there places near Cheshire (say 1 hour's drive) that are nice places to live but cheaper than Cheshire because not on commutor routes?
Look at www.rightmove.co.uk, you can put in a town or postcode and choose up to 40 miles around that. You can put in price brackets and room requirements too. Might throw up some useful ideas.
