Putting up my rent?
3 Answers
I privately rent my house through a house renting agency. I have received a letter this morning stating that my 6 month agreement has expired and they need to draw up new agreements if I wish to stay which I would like. However, they have stated this new agreement will also include an additional 10 icrease to my rent. How much notice should they give? This doesn't seem right to me. ANY help grateful recieved.. Thanks

It's up to you as to whether you wish to stay in the property. Refusing to pay the 'revised' rent amount is likely to result in you not having the tenancy renewed and the owners simply looking for another tenant.
I'm no expert but something very similar happened to a friend of mine recently.

lucky you it is only 10.00
i rent a house and like you after the first 6 months was asked did i want to renew my contract and if so there would be a 25.00 a month increase.
i renewed..... 6 months later another renewal and another increase of 25.00 so 50.00 increase in first year...
however on the second 6 month renewal i asked for my peace of mind as i wanted security in knowing i wasnt living from one month to the next 5 if i was going to be asked to leave, could they renew my contract for a year instead (plus avoiding another 25.00 increase in another 6 months)
they did this... however in two years my rent went up by 75.00!
but atleast i know they cant put it up two times in a year ...
so my advise to you is agree to it as you will probably be asked to quit if you dont but ask can the renewal be for a year instead....
good luck...
