the tax refund company
7 Answers
My daughter has had a letter from the above named company saying that there is a strong possibility she is entitled to a tax refund. They want to investigate further and if any refund is forthcoming they will take 40p in every pound but not charge her anything if there is no refund due. It seems a bit suss to me especially as there is no phone number on the letter. Any comments please!!!

This is the company website. It looks me legit, but a rather uneccessary service since most people could do this for themselves surely, without paying for an advisor to take a cut. http://www.taxbuddies.com/ptsmain.php
Don't bother unless your daughter has complicated tax affairs - in other words, she uses a lot of equipment and travels in her work, that would enable her to get tax relief on. If not, she should just make an application for a rebate hersel. The Inland Revenue don't just give it back to you - you have to ask first.
if anyone rings/calls/sends unsolicited requests there is only one place for them, in the bin. The world is full of pikeys trying to suck your money out of you instead of doing a proper days work like you and me.
If you need tax affairs sorting, call the tax office, read a Which guide, or if really complicated ,call a Chartered Accountant.

It's very easy for these firms to check your tax situation with a few simple questions. They are looking for people who are not claiming all their allowances and by establishing your personal circumstances this can be checked against your current tax code.
If you have had a break in employment or you have done agency work then you may be due a refund as you may have been taxed at basic rate without your tax free allowances.
They are also looking for new clients to do their self assessment returns.
