Getting his name off mortgage

I met my fiance 2 years ago and he told me he had signed over the house jointly owned with his now ex-wife solely to her. He didn't have a solicitor when they divorced in 2002 and left everything for her to deal with. I asked him where all his paperwork was and he said he never got any he didn't even have a decree absolute (he now has a copy from the court) I said to him I think your name is still on the house and she told him about 18 months ago that it is. He has let her sort this out and I'm at the end of my tether because now she is saying she has got in arrears and until she has paid the said arrears his name cannot be removed until 6 months after they have been paid. She is getting married again in October. My fiance wants nothing from the house just his name removed. They have a son who he has always paid child maintenance for never missing a payment. I think he should get legal advice but he tends to let her sort it out and she keeps going on about re-mortgaging which has nothing to do with him! Please any advice? It only took me a month and a half to remove my name from mortgage etc when I split from my ex-partner
