Can a UK citizen working and living in Russia get a mortgage from a UK lender for a property in the UK? Would all the high-street banks be interested or would I better looking at a specialised lender?

There are ways and means of doing this. A google search on ex-pat mortgages may give you some pointers - alternatively speak to a mortgage adviser. The process will be easier if the citizen is paid in �'s but even if they are not there are ways of doing this - a lender called Heritable Bank seem to have a very accomodating attitude to this type of business.
