A freind of mine has just recieved a letter from a debt collection agency. The debt is from when she was married nearly 10 years ago.

Is there a time limit on claiming a debt?

Cheers.

6 years - but if court action was started within the six years then the time limit is removed and recovery can be at any time.

The time limit starts from the last date the debt was acknowledged by the debtor - making a payment, or writing to say you can't afford the payment and so on.. Not from when the loan was taken out.

Thanks.
I have had a letter from a company Lowell Portfolio asking if i had lived at previous address, It is 22 years since I lived at this address, I have no idea what this is about but I am not willing to get into conversation with them, so I have told them no, can they check, isn't 22 years a bit excessive to chase a debt, assuming that is what thery are doing.
