my husband had a letter from the inland revenue to say he has overpaid some tax, my question is why are they so slow paying what they owe you, but on the ball when you owe them?

I'm not sure I agree with you - they are only slow if you don't tell them the circumstances to allow them to calculate who is owed what. They will also pay you interest on the money owed (in the same way theu charge interest if you owe them money).

We used to get regular tax rebates. It would only take about 6 weeks for us to receive the cheque from first notification. We have never found a problem in dealing with the IR.

Nowadays we don't receive rebates as the IR have been very efficient and changed the tax code..so instead of receiving a large amount once a year we are a few quid better off each month instead. Much more favourable!
