If a Building Society deducts tax from the interest paid as at 31st March 2007 and an R85 tax exemption form is filled out and submitted to the BS in May 2007, can the BS repay the tax paid as I understand it to be in the same financial year or do they have to go by the date the R85 form is submitted. In which case I understand a Certificate of Tax is needed.

It goes by Tax Year so the interest paid 31st March is in a different tax year if you submitted the R85 in May.
