Accepting Credit Card Payments Without A Machine

Is there any way that a sole trader can accept credi card payments without using one of those credit card gadgets? Also, can you just pay credit card slips into the bank as you would cash? I work as a mobile therapist, and currently only accept cash and cheque, but was wondering if I could manually take card numbers?

no you have to have a machine or something to accept credit card payments, you also have to pay a percentage of the transaction too from what i recall.

Its been a few years since i checked though

What about one of those manual machines, where you swip the card, and it copies the number onto a piece of carbon paper?
youd need that and some sort of account with Visa or mastercard which would cost you
