Don't do it. I suggest you call your bank or visit them if you can and sort this. Most likely this is fraud.
It's a scam..........just ignore it. I get loads from lots of different banks and building societies. They look very real but are a scam. Just delete them or ignore them.
I'd ignore it and then go into Abbey National as you said.

mny thanks for the advice and help, really appreciated.

Just forward the e-mail to Abbey. Or just delete it. It will have been sent out by the thousand if not million and they'll get copies from someone anyway.

There are loads of these scams about - they don't even know you have an account with Abbey. I get them 'from Natwest' all the time. I don't, and never have had, an account with Natwest
It's worrying that so many people aren't aware of this phishing scam. Banks should do more to warn customers-eg by big announcements on statements- but some customers are just too gullible I'm afraid and will still fall for it. The phishing emails are always badly written and don't have your name on. If in doubt close it- don't follow any links in it. Log off. Then log back in onto your normal online banking system and if you can get on fine tand there's no message for you then the email was clearly a scam.
Just to prove it - click "properties" on the email (right click) - then look for "message source" - you'll find it's from something silly like xyz.123@taiwan or similar :o)))
Sorry - that should be "details" after "properties" - you don't need "message source"
Do not click on anything. Report to the Abbey National today if you can get online. See this site for more info :)

sounds like a scam , i would phone the bank up.better to be safe than sorry
Go online and but in Abbey National email scam. apparently it is a honeytrap designed to get u to give details.
If you hovver over (but don't click on) the links that supposedly take you to the bank site you'll find some strange address of some fraudulent site onto which they want you to enter your data.

Thanks to everyone for the response, I shall contact my Abbey branch tomorrow. I dont do internet banking for this very reason.
Dee
If email was from abbey national then it's clearly a scam as they aint called abbey national now.
If teh email didn't include your name then it won't be genuine
If you haven't got an abbey account at all then it must be a scam
if you don't bank online then it must be a scam

Personally I wouldn't even bother visiting the branch.

I disagree with gravitate- once you click on and start entering details it the scammers know they've hit a genuine email address and you'll find it will get passed onto other scammers. Andmaybe they also pick up your IP address
