Is Good Friday an official Bank Holiday in Scotland? And if so, do all the banks close?

England and Wales have a holiday on both GoodFriday and Easter Monday. Scotland only have a holiday on Good Friday. As for the banks, when I lived in Scotland the English based banks closed both the friday and the monday, but the Scottish ones only closed on the friday. I just know that I am working both days :-(

As far as I knew we are all part of the "United Kingdom". Don't you think it would be so much easier if we all had the same holidays? I now live in England and have to check with my family to check if they are off when I am to arrange best time for visits.

Yeah thats right. I'd forgotten about that. I lived on the west coast and had cousins in the east. Our holidays from school were nearly always different. The biggest difference is the school summer holidays in England and Scotland. My son's cousins in Scotland have been off about 3 weeks before him. He gets a bit lonely if we are in Scotland when his cousin's go back to school in August.
Yip the banks are shut.

I agree about the holidays -in Scotland we have to put up with non-stop cartoons when its English half term or Summer hols BUT when its a Scottish school holiday -zilch cartoons on the box for the Scottish kids.

I dont care as mine are grown up.

The Scottish Summer holidays start weeks before the English ones but arent catered for at all but when the English kids break up theres a big hoo ha about it.

I lnow its not anyone on heres fault but its really apparent up here.
Today is not a bank holiday it is a public holiday - very different things when it comes to wages etc

This is both for England and Scotland

I think you'll find the banks are closed, yes
Sorry off topic -but loving your username pink-kittens -really cuddly and fluffy (I know sad but thats just what i thought lol)
lol, drisgirl, Thank You

I can be pink and fluffy when I want to be :)
i'm off on Friday and Monday is reduced hours but I was under the impression that Monday is a holiday too as there won't be a mail delivery. The English dates for school holidays are totally stupid, they finish in Autumn. Scottish ones are a much more sensible time of year. I reckon everybody in England would prefer to get Jan 2nd too, who wants to go in to work on Jan 2nd? Certainly not me the way I celebrate new year!
There was a mail delivery in Dumfries on Good Friday. Main area sorting office in Carlisle was closed though. There's no postal service on Monday though.
