Barclays security certificate

When I log on to my online banking I always get a message saying there is a problem with the security certificate. As I have been getting this for about 6 months I tend to ignore it, but what does it mean, and why would such a huge bank allow it if it is a security issue?

Whats the exact error message and what URL are you using. Personally I wouldn't log into any bank which complained about a security certificate.

I use Barclays and have never had an issue.

it comes up with ''The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website's address' I use www.ibank.barclays.co.uk, which I have used for years!

It should just be ibank.barlays.co.uk (no www). That should sort out the certificate error.

The reason it appears is because the two versions of the web address are not identical. The computer does a comparison with the web address you type in and the address on the security certificate, and because they don't match exactly, presents an error.

In this case, there is no security risk because you can be sure that both versions of the web address point to the same site run by Barclays, but normally, you should always refuse to continue if you have a certificate error - you can't be too careful!
