I think both you and your wife should go, and then head straight to the pub!! Oh, and can I come?!!x
I would phone the back and check with them first - some would find it suspicious you turning up with a large cheque and wanting the money there and then so they might want ID etc. If it's made out to both of you I think both will have to go.
Depends on the cheque you might have to wait for it to clear but both of you would have to go.
Very much doubt you would be able to cash the cheque there and then even if you go to the branch. I really would check with the bank first. You can pay it into just your account though (as opposed to a joint account)
Although you may win big time on the premium bonds - on average you will get a return of 2.8% per annum. This will rise to 3.2% at the end of the year. Remember though, just as you may win some big money, you are just as likely to win nothing giving you no return. Compare this to a savings account and it doesn't look as attractive.

It is highly unlikely you would be able to cash the cheque as uncrossed cheques are rarely issued these days due to lots of fraud. You will probably have no option but to credit the cheque to a joint account.
I have paid a cheque made out to me and my wife into a sole account - the bank do know me -so not sure if you have to pay into a joint account or not
The cheque will have to be paid in to a joint account. Most banks will carry out checks on credits over 1K to ensure that the cheque is payable to those named on it. Unless you have a banker's draft then the cheque will have to clear which should take 3-4 working days, so you probably won't be able to withdraw on it same day
